About the course..

This course is taught by Russ James. It is an NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course. If your quest is to get a CT Pistol Permit, this is the course you'll need. Also, if you're looking for something fun to do in an 8 hour day, you've come to the right place.

You'll need nothing (guns, leather, ammo, pencils, etc), just 8 hours of your time and a willingness to learn some neat new skills. Most students become friends. Those few that have a hard time, can come back for free until they succeed.

The skills you'll learn can be as simple as recognizing a revolver from an automatic and how to shoot both. You'll know how to recognize the different types of actions and how to operate each kind of pistol. You'll learn how to hold a pistol so that the "kick" is minimal. Ammunition is another thing you'll learn, including the basic components of a reloaded round, and what make them go "Bang". Also how to clean, maintain, and store the pistol properly.

Or, maybe you'll learn some advanced techniques used in competition. Some of these include speed reloading, visualization or "shadow shooting", using barricades and props.

But the first and foremost thing to learn is safety. This is the basis for all shooting things to come. Unless you can "display" your actions in a safe manner, all else is moot. At first Range Officers and those standing nearby you will watch you VERY closely as you strap on your pistol. You'll be known by the "way" that you handle your gun. There are certain "Do's" and "Don'ts" that stick out to the veteran shooter. This will be covered first in this course. And, the rest is just for the fun of it..

The course is $120
A minimum of 2 students, maximum of 4
